The Oscars Academy Awards Ceremony

The Oscars Academy Awards Ceremony

The Academy Awards Ceremony took place on March 2nd. In fact, I don't have high expectations for the Academy Awards Ceremony and I don't watch it. The reason is that it feels like a movie festival for most Americans or Europeans. Is the Oscars really an award for white people? Let's take a look at the Awards winners.

Why are there so many American films and American actors at the Oscars?

The Academy Awards, commonly known as the Oscars, are primarily dominated by American films and actors for several reasons:

American Film Industry Influence – The Oscars are organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which is based in the United States. Hollywood is the center of the global film industry, producing a significant portion of the world's most influential and commercially successful movies.

Language Barrier – Since Hollywood films are primarily in English, they have a wider reach among Academy members, most of whom are English-speaking. Non-English films, despite their artistic value, often face challenges in gaining the same level of exposure and appreciation.

Academy Membership – The majority of Academy members, who vote for the awards, are professionals working in the American film industry. This naturally results in a preference for American films and actors.

Marketing & Campaigning – Studios invest heavily in Oscar campaigns to promote their films and actors. Since Hollywood has the financial resources and a strong awards campaign culture, American productions receive more attention.

Eligibility & Distribution – To qualify for the Oscars, a film must have a theatrical release in Los Angeles County. While international films can compete, they often struggle to get the same level of distribution and visibility as American films.

Despite these factors, there has been increasing recognition of international films, as seen with Parasite (2019) winning Best Picture. However, the dominance of American films remains strong due to Hollywood's historical and cultural influence.

My Thoughts

It's an award for Americans, by Americans, and given to Americans, hosted in the United States. But blacks and Latinos are also Americans.... Why are most of the awards given to white people?.... The great 2020 Parasite director "Bong Joon-ho", who won the best director.

American actors seem like free-spirited people. I don't know much about Hollywood actors, but, I hope the movie industry develops better because of them.
